Many of times we go through life racing from A to
B completely unaware of the omens that are placed before us, we continue
time and time again failing to capitalize on them. Not all opportunities will be so
obvious to us but, when they happen we must be prepared to act.
This story was told to me years ago and for
whatever reason always stuck with me I don't know who the original author was
but I had to drop some of my own seasoning into the story to make it more
relatable.
A terrible hurricane was coming into town and
local news station sent out an emergency alert that the coastal area would soon
overflow and flood the nearby homes. They ordered everyone in the town to
"ride out" immediately.
A faithful man, named Brumby heard the warning
and decided to stay, saying to himself, “I will trust God and if I am in
danger, then God will send a divine miracle to save me.”
The neighbor with 6 "felony prone" kids
came by his house and said to him, “We’re leaving and there is room for you in
our Cadillac on 26's, please roll with us!” But Brumby declined. “I have faith
that God will save me.”
As Brumby stood on his porch of his townhome
watching the water rise up the steps, the town drunk on a WaveRunner pulled up
and called to him, “Yo brethren! Hop on this doohickey
and let's get the hell out of here and find the nearest bar!” But the Brumby
again said, “No thanks, God will save me.”
The floodwaters rose higher pouring water into
his living room and the man had to retreat to the second floor into his media
room. The Po Po's on a motorboat came by and saw him at the window. “We will come up
and rescue you!” The boys in blue shouted. But the Brumby refused, waving them
off saying, “First, I do not know anything about those bushes in the backyard and
secondly use your time to save someone else! I have faith that God will save
me!”
The flood waters rose higher and higher
and Brumby had to climb up to his rooftop and perched himself on top
of the satellite dish.
A millionaire's helicopter spotted him and
dropped a rope ladder. A butler came down the ladder and pleaded with the man,
"Grab my hand and I will pull you up and serve you lobster, steak and
potatoes" But Brumby STILL refused, holding tightly to the
satellite dish. “No thank you sir! God will save me!”
Only moments later, the house was swept up by the
flood and Brumby drowned.
When in Heaven, the Brumby stood before God and
asked, “I put all of my faith in You. Why didn’t You come and save me?”
And God said, “Come'on Son, I sent you a warning. I sent
you a caddy on dubs. I sent you a WaveRunner. I sent you Po Po's on motorboat.
I sent you a millionaires' helicopter. What more were you looking
for?”
The moral of the story is...Don't be a
"Brumby." You never know where your blessings are coming from so when
you do have one in front of you treated as a gift and make the most of the
opportunity because your life might depend on it.
